Home Works: A Forum on Cultural Practices is a multidisciplinary platform that takes place in Beirut, Lebanon every 2-3 years. Launched by Ashkal Alwan in 2002, Home Works has evolved into one of the most vibrant platforms for contemporary cultural practices in the Arab region and internationally. Artists, curators, writers, thinkers, and cultural practitioners gather for ten days in order to share their works, which take the form of exhibitions, lectures, panels, artists' talks, screenings, workshops and publications, as well as theatre, dance and music performances.

HWP

The Home Workspace Program (HWP) is an interdisciplinary arts study program launched by Ashkal Alwan in 2011. The program targets artists and other cultural practitioners who wish to develop their formal, historical, and critical skills and practice, within a supportive framework in Beirut.

Producing and curating projects in Lebanon and beyond has been an ongoing practice for Ashkal Alwan, as an independent association and in cooperation with regional and international partners. Initially grounded in an exploration of public space and in public interventions, the curatorial practice pursues, both in Lebanon and abroad, artistic production and exhibition making as a form of intellectual exploration.

Residencies

The artist-in-residency program is a platform for building dialogue and creating dynamic networks across diverse art communities. This program provides opportunities for emerging and established artists, cultural practitioners and researchers to conduct artistic and cultural research and production in Lebanon. Ashkal Alwan hosts residents in Beirut and also works with a network of partners to locate residencies for artists from Lebanon and the Arab world.

Video Works

Video Works facilitates the production of new projects by local and regional artists working in video. It aims to build a sustainable support structure for video production and its diffusion in the region. Following an open call, the jury determines the selected projects, and participants are provided with a production budget.
