Deadline: June 19

As a part of its initiative to promote innovative talent, Beirut Art Center (BAC) is organizing its annual group show for the sixth consecutive year.

We are happy to announce that the call for submissions for Exposure 2014 is now open. Unlike previous editions of the exhibition, Exposure 2014 will be a curated exhibition that revolves around a specific theme. The call for applications will not be based on a specific project; instead, the artist must present a general portfolio as well as an artist statement that introduces his or her practice and reflects on the theme of the exhibition.

The theme of the show will be “under construction,” in reference to the participating artists and the early stage at which they are building their practice. It also refers to Beirut, a city in a continuous process of transformation; its landscape is regularly destroyed, rebuilt, hence redrawn.
Exposure 2014 – Under Construction will deal with the idea of being in a constant construction in various fields: building the landscape, building the self, as well as building the artwork. The word ‘construction’ is to be understood here as a process of metamorphosis, whether it is linked to the notion of progress, destruction or entropy.

BAC, together with a jury invited for the occasion, will select the artists who will participate in the exhibition based on the quality of their work. Marie Muracciole, BAC’s new director will curate the show. Selected artists will work closely with her to realize a new work, or present an old work that has not yet been shown in Lebanon.

The deadline to submit an application is June 19, 2014. All media are accepted in the field of contemporary art. The selection of the participants will be announced by the end of July. Exposure 2014 is scheduled to take place in the first week of December.
