About the AIF

The Arab Image Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation and study of photography and other related visual material from the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab diaspora. Established in Beirut in 1997, the foundation holds a collection of more than 600,000 photographs from the mid nineteenth century through today. Since its inception, the AIF has produced fifteen exhibitions and seven publications in partnership with international museums, galleries and cultural institutions. About the project
The Project Manager will work primarily on the Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative (MEPPI) project: The Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative (MEPPI), is a project led by the Arab Image Foundation, jointly with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the University of Delaware and the Getty Conservation Institute, since 2009. MEPPI comprises a photograph collection survey, photograph preservation training, and other capacity building activities. Role and responsibilities
The Project Manager will be working closely with the AIF Deputy Director.
Tasks will include but not be restricted to:
– Project implementation with a focus on logistics and operations: planning workshops, events and meetings; being a point of contact for project partners, project participants, team members and service providers
– Translating announcements and correspondence from English to Arabic
– Assistance in project monitoring, budgeting and reporting
– Managing the MEPPI website and the MEPPI collections directory

Candidates should have a degree in business, cultural management, or strong prior experience in project coordination. Applicants should be meticulous, rigorous, extremely organized and reliable. We are looking for a proactive individual who is able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be fluent in English and Arabic –French is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is also preferred.
Applicants should have a personal interest in cultural heritage, archiving practices, and/or the history of photography.
Applicants must be eligible to work in Lebanon.

The position is available from 1 October 2014 and is offered on a full-time basis.
