Northwestern University is one of 6 leading American universities that were invited to establish campuses in Doha by the Qatar Foundation. Northwestern was invited due to its global leadership in communications and journalism. It is already offering classes in Qatar and is building a new 350,000 square foot building, designed by the highly regarded architect Antoine Predock and scheduled for completion in late 2014.

In addition to its core mission of providing undergraduate education to students, Northwestern University Qatar will serve as a regional center for issues related to communications and journalism. The Gallery for Media, Communications and Journalism will be located within the dramatic entry hall of the new building. The Gallery will be a dynamic, interactive exposition and programming space and serve as a focal point introducing the purpose, process, history and the anticipated future of communication, journalism and media within the region and globally.

Reporting directly to the CEO/Dean of Northwestern Qatar, the Director of the Gallery will provide strategic leadership, curatorial oversight and management expertise for the Gallery. S/he will drive efforts to be a leader in and beyond the Gallery through exhibitions, programming and engagement with curricular initiatives. The Director will act as an intellectual and cultural catalyst on the campus and in Doha generally, building productive relationships with the faculty and administration, students, alumni and the broader media sector.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial, innovative educator/curator with experience conceptualizing exhibitions and leading a team in content development for exhibitions in which media has played a strong part. The candidate will, ideally, have experience in the context of a museum, perhaps a history, science, or technology museum, and will be an inventive and imaginative storyteller. Familiarity with the region is a plus but not required.
