The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture is offering a series of cultural panels at Ashkal Alwan’s Home Workspace, on December 16th and 17th, and will be open to the public.
The literature panel, moderated by Palestinian poet and cultural critic Najwan Darwish includes Akhbar newspaper cultural editor Pierre Abi Saab, novelist and founder of Dar al-Jadid Rasha al-Ameer, Moroccan novelist and literary critic Mohamed Berrada, and Italian-based professor of Arabic literature and dialectology Dr. Wasim Dahmash to discuss Development Projects for Arabic Literature: A New Path.
The cinema panel brings together a dynamite group of directors and producers forwarding the field of Arab cinema and moderated by film critic Rima Mismar. Called Film Funding from within the Arab World: A New Reality? it includes Tunisian Habib Belhadi of FAMILIA Productions, the Egyptian Tamer El-Said of ZERO production, Middle Eastern cinema producer Irit Neidhardt, George Schoucair of MC Distribution and About Production, and renowned Palestinian filmmaker Elia Suleiman.
As for music, moderated by sound artist Tarek Atoui, the discussion title is The Shape of Sounds to Come: of Matter, Form, and Function with panelists including producer and founder of Eka3 Tamer Abou Ghazaleh, Kamal Kassar of AMAR for Arabic music archiving and research, jazz musician and educator Joelle Khoury, improvisational musician and founder of Irtijal fetival Mazen Kerbaj, and Tunisian music festival organizer and collaborator Afif Riahi.
Discussions will be in English and in Arabic, with simultaneous translation available.
