Lebanese artist Ghida Hachicho’s critical, choreography-based work is infused with sharp analysis and an attention to detail tinged with humor. In Studies on the Movement of a Group, she investigates the behavior of groups and swarms, starting from an understanding of groups as compositions of changeable relationships, patterns, networks and images. The performance considers the processes by which groups are formed: how are relationships created between participants, and what can they say about the individual in relation to the collective? Hachicho and her performers evoke the movements of animals as well as those of human beings; the codes, behavioral patterns, interactions and dynamics they contain are both imitated and probed with the aid of choreographic practices and scores. These explorations end up generating a choreography that gestures towards the political processes by which groups are formed.
