Ashkal Alwan announces an open call for applications to participate in the 13th edition of the Home Workspace Program (HWP), taking place in Beirut from January 15 through July 25, 2024.

Launched in 2011, HWP is a 6-month study program that enrolls up to eight fellows per year. The program is open to artists aiming to develop their formal, theoretical, and critical skills in dialogue with fellow artists, scholars, writers, thinkers, and others. Unlike past editions, the curriculum will not be defined through a set of pre-established themes and inquiries, but structured according to the individual and collective needs of selected fellows and their practices. Some of the program’s lectures, seminars, and workshops are open and free of charge to non-enrolled participants.

Eligibility, conditions, and application:

An admissions committee will select fellows based on the merit of their previous work and future projects. Applications can be submitted until October 11, and selected fellows will be notified by November 25th, 2023.

All artists and cultural practitioners living in Lebanon and abroad are eligible to apply, regardless of age and nationality. Applicants who followed online courses during the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Home Workspace Program are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants should be able to fully commit to HWP’s schedule. External engagements must be kept at a minimum and should not interfere with each fellow’s commitment to the program.

The program will be carried out primarily in English.

Up to eight local and international fellows will be selected to take part in HWP 2024; each will receive a monthly stipend and a shared studio space.

To apply: Please submit a one-page CV, a portfolio of past works (<10MB) and a letter of motivation (300–500 words) to hwp@ashkalalwan.org. Questions concerning the application process or the program itself, can be directed to the same email address.
